Many people have heard of heroin, however, not many people have heard of black tar heroin. Heroin is an illegal drug that is very addictive. It is processed from the drug morphine. Morphine occurs naturally in the seeds of poppy plants. Heroin is typically a white or brown powder. If the heroin is pure, it will appear crystal white. 

Black Tar Heroin

Black tar heroin is found west of the Mississippi. This drug is produced by the Mexican drug cartel. This is a potent drug that is less pure than regular heroin. It is a crude form of heroin. It looks black and has a sticky texture. It may also be called Mexican black tar. Most people will hear that it isn’t pure heroin, which means that it isn’t as potent. However, this is just as potent as normal heroin. This is how so many people can overdose because they believe they need more of this type of heroin to receive the same high. People will generally not use this through a needle. They will often smoke it. People have also been known for snorting black tar. If one were to inject it, they would have to turn it into a liquid. This is typically done by heating a spoon with the drug on it. It is important to know that black tar heroin may also be known as brown tar heroin because the color can range from black to dark brown. 

Effects 

Black tar heroine’s effects are dangerous. People believe that this drug has different effects from normal heroin, however, the effects are all the same. Because black tar heroin goes through a different process to make it quicker, the purity can differ from batch to batch. However, with that being said, most of the time, it is around thirty percent pure. Because this drug is cheaply produced and cheaper to buy, it is often more dangerous. However, no matter what you buy, the general effects will remain the same. These effects include

  • Reduced Anxiety 
  • Drowsiness 
  • Apathy 

Those who use black tar heroin will feel these effects the first time they use it. However, these are the reasons people become addicted. No matter how long someone has been using, everyone is equally likely to overdose. However, those who use heroin long-term are likely to notice these effects:

They take the medication and do not realize they have a problem until their medication is gone. It isn’t until this point that people seek different means of treatment. 

Statistics 

Eighty percent of the people who suffer from addiction to heroin state that the addiction started from a prescription medication. People state that prescription opioids started their addiction. In 2016, there were over 948,000 heroin addicts or users in the United States alone. This number increased by over 135 percent from 2003.
